What is alarm monitoring?

Most burglar alarm systems have the ability to communicate events to an alarm monitoring company, through the normal phone lines or over the internet.  The advantage is that someone is notified as soon as your alarm is triggered, and it can be investigated promptly.  Property owners normally provide a list of people the monitoring company should call to tell them the alarm has been activated.

Why Monitoring Plus?

Monitoring Plus uses the latest technology to help improve your security and save you money.  By integrating modern communications services with our monitoring station we can offer unique features that make life easier by providing alerts by convenient TXT message, e-mail, and phone calls.  Also, our monitoring is fully web integrated so you can see a real-time event history on-line, and have instant access to change your contact list or monitoring settings.  We also provide innovative customised alerts so you can keep track of who is coming and going by TXT, e-mail, or phone messages.  By investing in automation, we have reduced our costs, and passed these savings onto our customers, with monitoring accounts starting at just $15 per month.  Monitoring Plus is a licensed security provider.

Do I really need an alarm and monitoring?

It's right to be cautious of companies that are "just trying to sell you something" that you don't really need.  So, instead of giving you the "sales pitch", we'll refer you to some unbiased advice to help make up your mind.  Check out the NZ Police Safety Pages.  Among many other things, they have sections on Burglar Alarms and Monitoring, as well as Safety in the Home.

Is Monitoring Plus right for me?

We use modern communications technology to help you make the most of your alarm system.  If you're comfortable using the Internet, TXT messaging, and e-mail, then Monitoring Plus is perfect for you.  If, on the other hand, you thought that last sentence sounded like gobbledygook, and you prefer to talk to someone on the phone rather than by e-mail, then you are probably better off with one of the the more traditional monitoring companies.

Does Monitoring Plus sell alarm systems?

Monitoring Plus provides alarm monitoring services only, and does not sell alarm systems.  Having said that, we are more than happy to put you in touch with one of our recommended alarm installers.  When you sign-up for our monitoring service, you have the choice of asking us to recommend an installer in your area, or finding your own installer.  If you choose to find your own installer, be careful to make sure that are properly qualified and licensed.

Where do I get a new alarm?

To help make it easier for you, we can recommend an alarm installer in your area.  If you would like us to do so, select "Please get an installer to contact me" in the sign-up wizard.  Otherwise, check the Alarms or Security Systems sections of the Yellow Pages.  Remember to make sure that your installer is properly qualified and licensed.

How much does a new alarm cost?

As mentioned above, Monitoring Plus does not sell alarms, but we partner with local alarm installers in your area.  The cost of a newly installed alarm varies depending on the features you need and the amount of work required to put it in.  A basic system should cost somewhere between $800 and $1,000.

How do I connect my existing alarm to monitoring?

Once you have signed-up for monitoring service, your alarm will need to be re-programmed with a new set of phone numbers (for the monitoring station), or internet address for internet connected alarms.  This should be done by a qualified and licensed alarm installer.  If you have the Installer Code (which is different to the Master Code), this is a straight forward job for the installer and should cost around $100.  Sometimes alarms are difficult to program if the Installer Code is not available, which will result in higher costs.

How do I stop my alarm from interfering with my internet?

If you've had ADSL broadband connected after you got your alarm installed, you may find the your alarm causes your internet to drop-out sometimes.  This is because it's not wired correctly, and it doesn't have to be that way.  For more details, check out our Phone Wiring Information page.
